— This first line of Lamentations 1 devastates. It’s like the first scene in a movie when the camera pans over deserted streets and tomb homes and the wind blows trash and the trash is the only thing moving and you know this is going to be a really, really sad movie and you almost get up and leave right there during the opening credits but you don’t because the sadness is already weakening your legs. That’s the way I feel about Lamentations chapter 1.
